6. Bloodsport is Less Derivative
While I’m sure Bloodsport reuses a lot of elements and ideas from the fighting genre, it feels less derivative than Balance of Power.
While Bloodsport definitely pays homage to previous works like Enter the Dragon:
Balance of Power seems like it’s trying to simply re-create what’s already popular. Like this final strike from Niko that echoes Bruce Lee’s attack in Enter the Dragon:
Or how this seems like a deliberate (but poor) recreation of the Jackson character / fight:
Or how Takamura seems to be an attempt at recreating Chong Li, but without the great physical characterization Bolo Yeung performed.
